Archaeological surveys

It is well established that multispectral sensors are perfect for detecting hidden archaeological features in the landscape, but require some investment in equipment and training. We are delighted to offer our drone surveying services to the archaeological community, either as a full-service or simply to augment your existing UAV capability. 

The image above shows a linear feature detected during one of our surveys. A subsequent exploratory dig to the east, prior to commercial buildings being erected, found that it was possibly a defensive ditch for an ancient settlement at the top of the hill. The circular features were proposed as water wells.

Alongside high resolution photographic and video recording of your site, we can provide measurable 2d orthomosaics or 3d models, with either 'relative' or 'global' accuracy depending on your project needs.

Drone mounted 'Light Detection and Ranging', commonly known as 'LiDAR', is a game-changer for Archaeologists. LiDAR surveys scan the ground with accuracy down to 1cm and post-processing of captured reflections enables us to create a 3d model. This provides accurate measurements, can create a Digital Surface Model or 'strip-away' the vegetation to generate a Digital Terrain Model and reveal hidden archaeological features.

We can provide you with a .LAS file compatible with your own software, or we are able to generate the various required outputs for your project.
